Dear Editor,
Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) wishes to respond to the article in the Thursday November 12, edition of the Kaieteur News titled ‘GWI New Water Improvement Programme bypasses some Canje Communities’.
GWI wishes to advise that the villages of Betsy Ground and Gangaram are provided with water from a facility owned and managed by the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO).
According to GWI’s Executive Director of Infrastructure, Planning and Implementation, Ramchand Jailal, in the past, the company has held discussions with representatives of the aforementioned villages with the intention of offering to provide the villages with water from a GWI facility.
However, the proposal was refused since residents indicated that they preferred the service provided by GUYSUCO.
The company wishes to further advise that the Water Treatment fFacility which will be constructed at Sheet Anchor has the capacity to serve the villages of Betsy Ground and Gangaram, provided that residents register with GWI as metered customers.
Guyana Water Inc. wishes to invite representatives of the villages to commence further discussions on the possibility of providing service to residents within the communities as registered GWI customers.
