The Annual Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) ‘Track Attack’ cycling event was successfully held on Sunday last at the Area H Ground Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice.
The day’s activity was intense and very competitive.
A number of cyclist put in outstanding performance with Andrew Hicks dominating in the open category, Curtis Dey had things his way in the U16 category, while Whitney Poyer was the top performer amongst the females as she got the better of Shenika Tosharia and former national female champion Maricia Dick.
Hicks, of the Trojan Cycle club, was in top form as he rode away with the Devil Take the Hindmost, the 20 lap and the eight laps events.
Curtis Dey of The FACC for his part rode away with the U16 six and five lap events.
On the distaff side, up and coming top female cyclist Whitney Poyer also of the FACC showed that she will be a force to be reckoned with as she won the female five and six lap races.
There were athletics events contested. A number of the participants, who are presently preparing for the national school athletics championship in Georgetown, used the opportunity to warm up by putting in some good performances during the day.
Participants were drawn from all over Berbice including New Amsterdam, Canje, West Berbice and Corentyne. The top performers received cash and trophies. The coordinator was cycling coach Randolph Roberts.
Roberts stated that he was pleased that he was able to give the athletes an opportunity to compete a few days before the National Schools Athletic Championships.
A number of businesses contributed towards the successful staging of the day’s event; among them – Courts Guyana limited, Republic Bank, A. Ali and Sons, Water Crest Hotel, Refigure Construction, Kings Jewelry, Arokium Funeral Parlour, Deputy Superintendent of Police Lyndon Isle, Sergeant Lawrence Thomas, Steve Macedo Taxi Service, Sentinel Security, Massey Group of Companies, Watterson Catering, Imran and Sons, Bibi Khan of Bartica, Deolal Sooklall Tyre Shop and Chief Fire Officer Marlon Gentle amongst others.
