Yesterday, incoming passengers were given a warm Diwali welcome by staff of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) at the Arrivals walkway.
Sweetmeats were distributed by the smiling faces to add to the festivities.
“Every year, CJIA joins our Hindu brothers and sisters in celebrating the triumph of light over darkness. It is always a pleasure to have the passengers join us in these celebrations,” said Ramesh Ghir, the airport’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Over the years, passengers are treated to delicacies during the observations of major holidays including Mashramani, Easter, Emancipation and Christmas.
Diwali – the festival of lights – will be celebrated today as a national holiday.
The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil and hope over despair.
