-Show Stoppers, Silver Bullets also win Round Robin encounters
Magic Stars easily set up itself as the team to beat in the New Era Entertainment
(NEE) Stag/Cell Smart Futsal Tournament Friday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard Court, Linden when it mauled Redline in the opening game.
Magic Stars, backed by the sheer skill of Clarence Huggins and Richard Allicock inflicted a sound 9-3 beating on Redline. The official score sheet had Jermaine Grandison as scoring eight of the nine goals, but both Huggins and Allicock scored in the game after clinically taking their defenders apart. The other goal scorer was Joel McKinnon.
For Redline, Haldeem Frondline scored their three goals. The tournament began with the Ghetto Warriors securing a walkover Plantain and Cheese. The event was the second annual staging for the NEE group.
In the technically the third game of the night, Show Stoppers edged High Rollers 5-4 with Devon Francis scoring a helmet trick for Show Stoppers. Jesse Waldron was the other goal scorer for the winners. Omar Brewley netted a double while Benny Nebblit and Jamaal Almond score one apiece for High Rollers.
The curtains came down with Silver Bullets defeating Mike Stars 5-3. Colwin Drakes and Rawle Gittens both scored twice, while Damian Williams had the other goal. Julian Smith had two goals and Kevin Crawford one for Mike Stars.
The winners will pocket $250,000 as the second place team takes home $150,000. The third and fourth place teams in the 13-team contest get $75,000 and $50,000 respectively. Trophies will accompany all cash prizes. In addition, prizes will be awarded to the Best Goal Keeper and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, which continues tomorrow night in the Mining Town of Linden.
