Courts Pee Wee Schools Football Competition…
With one week remaining for the life of the Normalisation Committee to expire and the hosting of the Guyana Football Federation Electoral Congress to once again normalise the sport’s landscape, football fans, scouts
and more importantly parents will no doubt be taking the opportunity to witness the staging of the semi-finals of the Courts Pee Wee Schools Competition.
The competition which is being played at the Banks DIH ground, Thirst Park begun on October 3 and will conclude with the finals on November 10, at the same venue.
Today’s semi-finals will see St. Pius go up against Enterprise and the other one involves St. Angela’s and West Ruimveldt.
The matchup that involves last year’s beaten finalist St. Pius and Enterprise should be a cracker since both teams are stacked with quality players upfront and while the latter has been prolific throughout the tournament they lack experience at this stage.
They will be relying on Seon Archibald, Martin King and Garfield Caesar to engineer a win, while St. Pius’, undoubtedly the most consistent team in the tournament’s history, will be relying on the services of Brandon Solomon, Christian Jupiter, Selwyn Jones and Mike Prince to take them over the line.
The other semi-final between St. Angela’s and West Ruimveldt should provide end to end action and choosing a winner seems to be a difficult proposition.
St. Angela’s have been a model of consistency so far and their 4-0 drubbing of Tucville is a clear signal of their intent to go all the way.
Keyon Douglas, Antwoine Vincent, Nickone Dover, Antonio McArthur and Kenroy Cadogan have all played well and are expected to lead the charge for victory.
On the other hand, West Ruimveldt have always been knocking on the door and they may feel that this is the year that they make the breakthrough.
Michael Oie, who hails from a footballing family, has shown admirable creativity, while Mark Cameron seems to be in scoring form and should they perform as anticipated then their chance of advancing is a good one.
What is certain is that both games do not have the appearance of being dull affairs.
