Dear Editor,
Travelling on the West Coast (Region 3) on several occasions now, I have witnessed the very distressing scene of children desperately trying to get to and from school. The mini bus operators are taking full advantage of this situation by massively overloading their vehicles with these children. In doing so, they are seriously putting these children’s lives at risk.
This added to the already questionable state of road safety in Guyana makes for a disaster waiting to happen.
This situation calls for an immediate solution with a zero-tolerance attitude towards endangering lives on the road.
President Granger, I believe that the best solution to this desperate problem would be to provide free transportation for all our school children and teachers to and from school, especially on busy routes such as from Vreed-en-Hoop to Parika and vice versa where I have witnessed this problem several times on a massive scale.
President. Granger, I believe you would agree with me that the safety of our children tops the list of priorities.
