Another fatal accident on Tuesday, on the Corentyne Public Road left two more teens dead. This accident occurred hours after another had claimed two other teenaged lives on the Corentyne highway. The police are investigating the cause of this latest accident which occurred on Tuesday around 23:20 hrs on No. 74 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead are driver Balram Nourang, 19, of Lot 22 B No 69 Village, Corentyne and his best friend Haresh Ramsaywack, 17, of Lot 241 No. 69 Village, Corentyne.
According to information, motor car PEE 6017 was being driven by Balram Nourang with Haresh Ramsaywack in the front seat.
The car was reportedly owned by Omchand Nourang, Balram’s uncle, whose home he shared.
Balram borrowed the car as he would usually do, but on Tuesday the teen did not say where he was going.
Enquiries revealed that the car, a Toyota Starlet, was proceeding south along the eastern lane of the Corentyne Highway at a fast rate of speed when the driver swerved and lost control of the vehicle. The left front door of the vehicle collided with the concrete base of the No.75 Village Arch. The vehicle was badly mangled. Most of the engine including the gear box, and battery were knocked out of the car after the collision. The vehicle was reduced to scraps of metal. The driver was flung out of the vehicle and the passenger who was seated in the front passenger seat was pinned. The body had to be retrieved by the Guyana Fire Service.
Later in the evening Balram’s uncle received information about the accident and hurried to the scene. His father, Jairam, said he received a phone call informing them of the accident. They raced to the scene and were shocked at the horrendous scene. His son was lying on the road next to the vehicle and he appeared to be dead.
Upon arriving at the scene his worst fears were confirmed as he saw the mangled wreck of what remained of his vehicle.
Both occupants received injuries to their head and about their bodies and were subsequently rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Nourang who is the last of three children leaves to mourn his parents and two brothers.
Residents also stated that the car which was destroyed in the accident recently won three drag races at the No. 63 Beach.
Ramsaywack’s mother, Champwattie Sarran, stated that her son left home Tuesday afternoon. She did not know when he left and where he went. She received a telephone call around 23:00hrs, informing her about the accident. They rushed to the scene and were confronted by the horror of seeing her son pinned in the front seat of the car.
Ramsaywack leaves to mourn his mother and two sisters. Investigations are continuing.
It was the second fatal accident in which two persons died following a horrendous fatal accident.
