Police detectives are investigating an alleged triangular love affair which turned sour and resulted in the death of a 28-year-old mother of five at Port Kaituma, Region One. The killer remains on the run.
Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, yesterday confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the brutal murder which has left five children without both parents.
Arlene Persaud was allegedly beaten to death around 23:00 hrs on Friday by her partner, after he was reportedly informed that the mother of his children was seeing someone in the village while he was at the Backdam working.
As a result, the suspect immediately made preparations to go home to confront his reputed wife.
According to information, when the suspect arrived home, he found Persaud imbibing alcohol with friends at a neighbour’s house.
There are reports that the man took a piece of wood and hit her in the head, and then he dragged her by the feet to their house where he continued to torture her. He then poured a bucket of water on her after she fainted.
A relative of the dead woman, Arlene Boyce, said that she was informed that after Persaud regained consciousness, her partner handed her their two-month-old baby and instructed her to nurse the child.
“I heard when she started nursing the baby, he kicked her and she and the baby fall and hit their head. The other son then took the baby and carried him by his grandmother,” Boyce said.
According to the woman, some time after 23:30 hrs on Friday, Persaud went to her mother’s home in blood and informed her that the suspect was beating her and had hit her too.
However, no one took it seriously since the couple would get violent at times.
“The next day my mom called me and said that Arlene died. When we went and find out, neighbours said that he (suspect) started to beat her since 10’ clock (22:00 hrs on Friday) and dragged her home and beat her,” Boyce said.
She added that it was the woman’s seven-year-old son who walked to the Port Kaituma Police Station at 02:30 hrs the following morning (Saturday) to make a report.
“After the baby fall, the son collected the child and took him to their grandmother’s house. Like around 02:00 hrs, the grandmother send him to the house to collect pampers for the baby,” the woman added.
It was there when the child discovered his mother’s lifeless body on the bed.
Investigations are ongoing.
