Much needed support was last week forthcoming to Food for the Poor Guyana Inc. (FFTP) to help boost its food drive which is being undertaken as part of the observance of World Food Day earlier this month.
The support came from Carib Foods Distributors Inc. which donated a 40-foot container of Campbell’s canned soup and toilet tissue. During a handing over activity last week Thursday, FFTP’s Chief Financial Officer, Aubrey Austin, expressed appreciation to Carib Foods for its generous donation. He said “these items, the soups and paper products, have demonstrated to us that you (Carib Foods) are catering for the poor too.”
Austin said that it is the support demonstrated by kind-hearted organizations and individuals, which FFTP requires to fulfill its mandate of serving those in greatest need.
The soup and toilet tissue donation, according to the FFTP representative will complement the food hampers that will be distributed to needy families during the Christmas season. In addition, other initiatives of the organization such as its Outreach Assistance programme, the Elderly Care programme, the School Feeding programmes, and the Angel’s of Hope programme, among others, will also benefit from the donation.
Meanwhile, Kharishma Narine-Foo, Operations Manager of Carib Foods, explained that her company is pleased to make a contribution towards FFTP and its Food Drive. The donor company has also committed to continue its support to the charitable organization. According to Narine-Foo, “we at Carib Foods wanted to do something for our community. We wanted to give to the community as customers have supported us. We were not quite sure about what exactly we could have done but then the idea of giving to the less fortunate surfaced.”
The Operations Manager said too that “we tend to reach out to needy people of other countries when we have desperately needy people in our country… no one thinks about (donating) until you actually see what’s happening, you get a feel of what is going on out there.”
She also urged that other companies seek to support FFTP in its endeavours as hundreds of people rely on the charitable organization. “We will try our best to give to the poor and I’m hoping that other distributors besides Carib Foods will come on board with us and give back to the community,” she added.
Among the other organisations that have thrown their support behind FFTP to aid the food drive are: Sterling Products Limited, Metro Office and Computer Supplies, Precise Printing, among others.
