Prisoner seriously wounded in jail fracas
A prisoner who is serving a six-month sentence for sexual assault was on Tuesday rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital after he was seriously wounded by another inmate.
Leonard Bristol
Leonard Bristol, 22, a former soldier of Lot 37 Bristol Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice, was wounded following an argument with a fellow prisoner in the New Amsterdam Prison.
He was slashed four times about his body with a razor and received 42 sutures.
His relatives are not happy that they were not informed by the relevant authorities that Bristol was injured. One relative stated that they were informed around 07:50 hrs, Tuesday morning that Leonard Bristol was badly wounded and was at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital they saw the badly wounded Bristol in the emergency department being attended to by medical personnel. He was subsequently returned to the New Amsterdam Prison.
