Guyana, through Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Basil Williams, on Tuesday, attended a Meeting of the International Country Risk Guide (ICRG. The venue for the forum was the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Conference Centre in Paris, France.
The meeting was for the presentation of the report on the enactment of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Amendment Act 2015, which was passed in Guyana’s 11th Parliament.
The Co-chairs of the Americas Regional Review Group (ARRG) reported on Guyana’s efforts to comply with the action plan that contained deficiencies identified by FATF. It was reported that the enactment of the AML/CFT Amendment Act 2015, has implemented a substantial number of action items.
To this end, it was reported that Guyana has demonstrated its commitment to comply with the action plan and is to be commended for having met most of the deadlines. However, there is need to address the remaining items, in particular, those concerning terrorist financing.
The Americas Regional Review Group (ARRG), Co-chairs also informed that the presence of Guyana’s Attorney General at the Meeting was ample testimony that the country was taking its obligations seriously. (GINA)
