A high-speed chase at Eccles, East Bank Demerara at around 13.30 hrs yesterday ended with a security vehicle overturning, the seizure of a kilo of ‘weed’, gunshots, and two men with a string of previous criminal offences in police custody.
Kaieteur News understands that police from CID Headquarters and ranks from the Narcotics Branch were in the vicinity of Eccles when they spotted two men who were known to the ranks, acting in a suspicious manner while driving a vehicle.
The ranks reportedly ordered the men to stop, but the suspects sped away, leading to a brief chase along the East Bank Demerara Public Road. Kaieteur News understands that a mobile MMC Security Service patrol also pursued the suspects, but the driver lost control causing the vehicle to overturn.
Police fired warning shots at the suspects, who eventually came to a stop.
A search of the vehicle produced a kilogramme of marijuana. The suspects were detained and the vehicle impounded.
One of the suspects was previously arraigned on multiple felonies, including attempted murder, discharging firearms and unlawful wounding.
