CEO of GBI Mr. Robert Selman (right of pres.) hands over one of the player jerseys to ECB President Fizul Bacchus in the presence of officials and staff members.
launched the Busta Festival / ECB Senior 40-over competition that will see eight teams from the Cinderella County battling for a top prize of $75,000 in the knock-out tournament.
ECB President Fizul Bacchus in remarks noted that this is the 11th year of the competition and the day of the launch, last Friday, was also one of historical proportions for the board.
”As far as I am aware, this is the longest ever sponsorship that the ECB has ever received and it started back in 2004. We would like to express gratitude to Mr. Robert Selman who was there from the beginning and he is still here.”
Bacchus, who also extended thanks to GBI’s parent company, SM Jaleel of Trinidad and Tobago, said the festival will be contested on the weekend of November 13 – 15 next.
GBI’s Robert Selman in remarks complimented the ECB for hosting the tournament for the past 11 years noting that his company’s involvement is geared towards giving back to the community of Essequibo as they have done in Berbice and the East Coast of Demerara.
Selman also disclosed that they have pumped over 3Million dollars into the three tournaments and that is as a result of the company’s confidence in the organisers commitment to excellence over the years. He also noted that they will continue their partnership in the coming years.
Matches on November 11 in Zone A will see South Essequibo facing Central Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus ground while North Essequibo will host Pomeroon.
In Zone B on the same day, East Bank Essequibo will entertain Bartica and over at the Leguan ground, the home team will seek to turn back the challenge of Wakenaam.
The Semi final will be hosted on November 14 at the Imam Bacchus and East Bank Essequibo grounds while the grand final will be contested at the New Opportunity Corp ground on November 15. (Franklin Wilson)
