trophy sponsored by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market, recently launched a round robin second division cricket competition for teams in the Berbice River area. The tournament is set to start shortly and the board will also provide additional resources to make it successful.
At a simple ceremony held recently, Miss Angela Haniff of the BCB thanked Mr Christopher Jones, Director of Sports attached to the National Sports Commission for his timely intervention. She also made mention of the honorable Minister of a Culture, Youth and Sports, Ms Nicolette Henry, a Berbician herself, for donating the balls for this very important championship. She also said that the Minister is working towards providing more balls for clubs in Berbice to help to further promote the game. Haniff said many more tournaments of this nature will follow, including at the junior category.
In response, tournament coordinator, Floyd Benjamin, a coach and representative of the BCB, also thanked the board for the initiative and the National Sports Commission for providing the balls. He also extended thanks to Mr Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market for proving the winning trophy after he was approached by Mr Hilbert Foster. Benjamin said that this event will surely help to raise interest in the game in the area.
The fixtures are as follows:
Round 1 – Wednesday 11th November, 2015
(1) Ebini Ranch Raiders vs Wiruni Volcano at Ebini.
(2) Sand Hills vs Kimbia at Sand Hills.
Round 2 – Wednesday 18th November, 2015
(1) Ebini Ranch Raiders vs Kimbia at Ebini.
(2) Sand Hills vs Wiruni Volcano at Sand Hills.
Round 3 – Wednesday 25th November, 2015
(1) Wiruni Volcano vs Kimbia at Wiruni
(2) Ebini Ranch Raiders vs Sand Hills at Ebini
Finals – Sunday 6th December, 2015
To be played at Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice.
N.B: (1) Teams named first and are hosts and are responsible for the preparation of pitches.
They must also provide solid snacks with drink as well as adequate water.
(2) Teams must fill up report sheets for all matches played, whether won or lost and
have them returned to the Berbice Cricket Board of 7-1 Cheddi Jagan Street, New
Amsterdam, Berbice, or to Mr. Floyd Benjamin, of Ebini, Berbice River.
PLEASE also provide passport sized photographs of outstanding performers i.e 50 runs plus or 5-wicket plus.
