Veteran golfer and past President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Brian Hackett, on Saturday October 17 played exceptional golf to run clear ahead of all contestants and set his own personal Best Gross and Best Net scores in a spectacular manner. Playing with new golf clubs, since his previous clubs had been stolen from his vehicle less than a month ago, Hackett played such “crisp and precise driver, irons and chip and putt shots” (according to another veteran Hilbert Shields,) that his 60/82/22 performance was nothing less than historic.

2nd place winner, who also scored the day’s Best Gross prize, was Imran Khan, 62/8, while 3rd place was Parmanand Max Persaud, 65/19, who 2 weeks ago topped his category in the Suriname Invitational. Nearest to The Pin was won by Patanjalee Pur Persaud, who came 4 inches near to the hole.
Representing CEO of the Bissessar Shipping Company Mr Deanand Bissessar, club President Oncar Ramroop expressed the joy and willingness of Bissessar Shipping to sponsor this tournament. Bissessar Shipping has been moving cargo in and around the Caribbean for several decades, and Lusignan Golf Club has benefitted much in recent times with the Club Grounds personally experiencing the administration of Mr Bissessar as the former Grounds Superintendent of the current Executive.
President Ramroop hailed the significant contribution being made by Mr Bissessar, who is the current Assistant Secretary Treasurer. “The very good scores brought in by golfers today are reflective of the greatly improved state of the Grounds,” President Ramroop said, “but there is room for improvement, and we trust to have even better Grounds in time for the Guyana Open this month-end.”
Brian Hackett’s very good score – a phenomenal performance for any golfer – was achieved in a field of near 30 golfers, including previous Guyana Open champions Imran Khan and Avinash Persaud. He attributed his success to a good Driver; “The Driver seemed to be very forgiving to me, because even when I thought I played a bad shot it seemed to correct my aim! I enjoyed the game with a very good front nine of 37.”
