The Guyana Police Force (GPF) held on to a slim 11 ½ points lead over Guyana Defence Force (GDF) yesterday after day one of the Inter-Services Annual Athletics Championships (ISAAC) at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora.
Police have amassed 315 points with GDF on 304 points, which also includes the tally from the swimming competition. The Guyana Fire Service is a distant third with 35.5 points with Guyana Prison Service on 26 points and City Constabulary on 20 points.
The soldiers marched to a sweep in the Men’s 5000m with Forde winning in 18:05.2 and Tyshon Bentick a close second in 18:05.5. Jamaal Chisholm (18:07.5) was third in the 2015 competition that began yesterday for the first time on the West Coast of Demerara.
Andrea Foster won the Women’s 3000m in 11:42.6 for GDF as well with team-mate Ashanti Scott took second in 11:54.0. Police’s Shion Boyer (12:02.8) was third.
In the Women’s Long Jump, GDF’s Aniquah Powley leaped to 5.48m for first ahead of Police’s Cindy Fraser (5.43m) and Tandica Burgess (5.27m) respectively.
Patrick King won the Men’s Long Jump for GDF with a best leap of 6.85m, finishing ahead of Police’s Yoel Benjamin’s 6.70m and team-mate, Domain Williams (6.60m) respectively.
The competition continues today at the same venue.
