A baby is among four persons that escaped death yesterday following a two vehicle collision at the corners of David and Alexander Streets in Kitty, East Bank Demerara.
The accident occurred shortly after 14:00hrs when a motor car PTT 4022 which was driven by a woman, reportedly failed to heed the stop sign at the junction of David and Alexander Streets.
At the time the woman’s car which contained the baby was heading in a westerly direction along David Street.
After the collision, the woman’s car turned turtle several times before settling with its four wheels in the air.
When this publication visited the scene, the injured persons had already been rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and residents from the neighbourhood were assisting police ranks to clear the scene.
Kaieteur News spoke with the driver of motorcar PNN 3404 who identified himself as Mosley also called ‘Spongy’.
Moseley related that he saw the other car coming but could do nothing to avoid the accident.
“I see this man coming, I had de right away but I coulda see the speed this man coming and all I saying is Stop! Stop! Stop!”
His prayers were to no avail as the vehicles collided.
This publication was told that there were three persons a male, female and baby in the car PTT 4022. It was said that following the collision the driver of the motor car was left unconscious and had to be taken to the hospital.
The baby was said to have at least one of its arms pinned under the vehicle which turned turtle and was also taken to the hospital.
Hospital officials said that the baby was admitted for observation but was almost out of the danger zone, while the two other occupants were being treated.
