WOULD THE GFF ELECTIONS OF OFFICE BEARERS BE COMPROMISED?
Dear Sports Editor,
“The ill effects of democracy, allows any misfit to be elected by will of the majority”! And in so doing it empowers the elected executive to resort to undemocratic norms and practices, in defiance of Constitutionality and Parliamentary procedures. Within this context editor, would the GFF Elections of Office Bearers, be once again subjected to “a comedy of errors continuing unabatedly”, or, would the process of “absolute power, corrupting absolutely unfolds? Can public clarification as an example, but definitely not a precept be provided to the following:”
i) Which country as an affiliate of FIFA allows “Elite Clubs” the privilege of voting to elect a national Executive Committee?
ii) The “ top heavy” Elite Clubs’ structure of 8 participants, gives Georgetown, in excess of 50% of the votes cast accordingly, in addition to 1 from the Association, amounting to 7 overall! Surely, “Horse-trading, power brokering and corruption” is more than likely to take centre stage. Sadly, absolutely nothing can be done to eliminate this scourge.
iii) In relation to (i) should the “crème de la crème” be allowed to vote for a national executive in the lucrative European Leagues. I.e. Spain, England, Italy and France; reflective of USD billions. Then the Confederation of UEFA’s, integrity will be compromised significantly!
iv) So, what is the rational for Georgetown, in acquiring the largest bloc of votes? Have the mandate of the GFF, changed? Whereby previously the UDFA (Linden) would have been assisted administratively and otherwise, towards ensuring at least 1 club, if not 2, would have participated in the Elite League. While not foregoing EBFA (East Bank)! With Bartica and Essequibo, presently still being administered by IMC’s and having an extended period of inactivity, exclusion for 2015 is quite in order!
Finally, should any perceived voting member at the Congress, fail in its endeavour to fulfill the required obligations set out by the Normalization Committee, within the stipulated timeframe for submission, would their vote be nullified? In the event of a club being culpable, would the club’s participation in the Elite League continue? Is there any preferential treatment for GDF’s participation, despite the fact that they can fulfill almost all the obligations, as per se “Constitutionality and Youth Development,” are equally important? Can it be ascertained if parliamentary procedure and constitutional articulation is being adhered to? “Whereby a stipulated amount of clubs is necessary for a meeting to be convened, while a 2/3 (Two-thirds) majority is required to pass or adopt a motion, minutes et. al”.
v) “While Nero fiddles, Rome burns”! So, too are meaningful ideals, from the mindset of the guardians of the nation’s football! Moreover, when a notice by way of article have appeared in your edition of the newspapers (24.09.15) whereby members of the public are being invited to submit submissions, on or before 01.10.15 at the GFF Secretariat relating to:
“Inviting interested individuals who are desirous of serving on the Executive Committee of these associations” Guyana Futsal Association (GFA) & Guyana Beach Football Association (GBFA).
Once again, editor, “the cart is being placed before the horse; while shutting the stable door, after the horses have already bolted”! Am I, a product of amnesia or senility; or a combination of both?
How on God’s good earth can both Associations’ being granted Affiliate status, surpassing Associate, devoid of convening an AGM; encompassing Minutes of a previous AGM; Elections of Office Bearers, et.al then “request interested individuals to attend a meeting”? Why the haste? Surely, it would have been more prudent for a comprehensive study to be undertaken domestically within the Associations respectively, identifying most importantly venues. Then thereafter, incorporate a national body (Association)! In Lethem, Bartica, Essequibo, West Demerara, East Bank and the East Coast, is there any indoor facility conducive to host Futsal? While Georgetown has the Sports Hall, in relation to international requirements for specification, is it conducive? However, as it relates to Beach Soccer, venues in the various Associations are more realistic!
It’s my sincere desire that whoever is elected President, of the GFF, in conjunction with other elected executive members utilize my expertise and insights as an Administrative Consultant, towards rectifying our nation’s football development, since I’m not interested in any elected position.
Respectfully yours,
Lester Sealey.
