Dear Editor,
I want to challenge the Ministers, if they are worth their salt, to reject those hefty increases (which Mr. Harmon was brazen enough to announce) and have the monies channeled towards feeding and clothing the under-privileged children in areas such as Tiger Bay, Albouystown, Plastic City and the extremely poverty-stricken, barely surviving residents located just a few miles from the Ministry of the Presidency, behind the Chinese Embassy, among others.
Mr. Harmon (the real Prime Minister of this Country) has made it clear that the Ministers would not work if they are not paid more than enough. Why did they take an oath of office? My belief would be that they loved their country and wanted to see it developed. The first time increases for Ministers were mentioned was not a mistake, just that the reaction was not what they expected. This time, Minister Harmon doesn’t have any apologies about it. No Sir, no apologies. The greed plus the Animal Farm theory burst forth.
Does President Granger know and approve of these humongous increases or did the Ministers take advantage of his overseas travelling to pay themselves? And they liken you, President Granger, to President Obama. What a travesty.
Did this economy under the APNU-AFC five month government generate so much growth that such hefty increases are warranted?
Public service – you have to have a love for it. It doesn’t pay well. At least that is what public servants are accustomed to and five percent yearly increases. Well, it used to be from January 1.
Where did the Minister of Finance find 50 percent to pay themselves and five prevent to pay public officers? Was it a surplus amount from the PPP/C Administration? Anyone else noticed that something is dangerously wrong with this dispensation? And these amounts are separate and distinct from their duty free concessions, special allowances etc. Do they pay any taxes at all? And where do they spend their earnings…in Guyana to grow the economy or is it channeled overseas?
The APNU-AFC government is no better that the PPP/C administration, the only difference is that they took twenty three years to mess themselves up…the present administration starts early.
Oh beautiful Guyana…Oh my lovely native land…when would you have honest, decent and committed people to govern this land…more dear to me than all the world…
