Bharrat Rampersaud, 49, called “Burkie” of Lot 18 Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice, and a labourer at the Guysuco Blairmont Estate, used a cutlass to broadside his supervisor.
On Wednesday he was jailed for one month.
The penalty was handed down by Magistrate Rhondell Weever at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court after the man pleaded guilty to the charge of assault.
On Monday, at Hansan backlands, West Coast Berbice, he assaulted Samuel Alfred, a supervisor attached to the said estate.
According to Prosecutor, Corporal Racquel Mars, Alfred and Rampersaud had travelled to the above mentioned Hansan backlands to conduct business. Alfred was reportedly standing next to a lorry when Rampersaud accosted him and an argument subsequently developed between the two.
The argument escalated until Rampersaud took his cutlass and dealt the defendant some lashes about his body.
The matter was reported and the accused was arrested and charged.
