City Magistrate Dylon Bess jailed a father of seven on Tuesday for three years on a drug trafficking charge. The sentence was handed down in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Randy Norton, 36, of 39 Austin Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was found guilty of having 14 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Norton, a bus conductor, was found with the drug on February 7, at Cornhill Street, Stabroek, Georgetown.
At his first court appearance before former Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Norton had denied the charge and was released on $50,000 bail.
In addition to the prison term the convict was also ordered to pay a fine of $30,000.
