The Little Diamond International Martial Arts Academy (LDIMAA) just concluded a successful international tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall September 26 – 27, 2015. Six schools with well over 50 Karatekas competed in the event which included the Tang-Soo-Do International Guyana; Central Shotokan Karate-Do Association; National Martial Arts Association; Black Hawks Rising Sun Dojo; The Shuriken Karate School of Suriname and The Little Diamond International Martial Arts Academy.

The Little Diamond Int’l Martial Arts Academy with 15 Students won 44 medals, which included 27 Gold, 9 Silvers, 6 Bronze and 2, 4thPlaces. They also captured the Team Trophy for Kata. Christian Freeman (10 yrs.) of Wales won the Most Spirited Fighter Trophy, of the tournament giving the LDIMAA another Plus.
Sensei Kelvin Walcott from the Enmore Branch of the LDIMAA Won 4 gold medals, along with Sensei Parsuram Arjune from the Wales Branch who clinched 4 gold and 2 silvers, Maranda Bennett also won 4 gold and 1 silver. Other outstanding students were; Umish Parsaram 3 gold & 1 bronze, Ravi Samaroo 2 gold & 1 silver and Vikash Samwaru 2 gold, 1 silver & 1, 4th Place:
Sensei Kelvin Walcott (Enmore) and Sampai Paul Waldron (Wales) in the heavyweight division, along with Tadious Edun (Wales) and Marlon Ignatius (Parfait Harmony) Middle weight division, Umish Parsaram (Enmore) and Muneshwar Ganga (Wales) Lightweight division, thrilled the audience with the Full Contact fighting.
The Shuriken Karate School of Nickerie Suriname with 7 students put up a good performance to win 10 Medals; 3 gold, 5 silvers, 1 bronze and 1, 4th Place. The Suriname team also received 12 awards for their effort in coming to Guyana form Shihan Nazim, while Shihan Khedoe received his Grade “B” International Coaching Certificate.
At the tournament, Sensei Kelvin Walcott received his “Life Member” Certificate making him the 5th person to become a Life Member of the LDIMAA, while Radha Singh of Wales (Parent & member of the executive body), Tony Cox and The West Minister Phase # 2 Community Policing Group received Special Awards for their work with the LDIMAA.The Red Cherry Cafeteria was named the PATRON COMPANY of the LDIMAA.
The LDIMAA is expressing gratitude to the Red Cherry Cafeteria for Full Sponsorship of the tournament.
Special thanks were also extended to the National Sport Commission and the Ministry of Education Department of Culture, Youth and Sport; the LDIMAA is also thankful to Trophy Stall for Sponsoring them in the Team Champion Trophy competition, the Judges and Referees.
Shihan Nazim Yassim and his team will now turn their attention to the Knock Down tournament in December.
Special guests at the tournament were Director of Sport Mr. Christopher Jones, Director of Youth (ag) Miss Gillian Frank, Miss Guyana World, Miss Lisa Punch and her team POTS and Dr. Mark Constantine Chairman of the NCPE.
