Police have determined that the gun found on Dellon Henry, called ‘Nasty Man’, was not used in last week Tuesday’s execution of ‘Warlock’ resident Dexter Griffith.
But investigators are still trying to build a case against Henry in connection with Griffith’s murder, which is said to be linked to a vendetta between individuals from East Ruimveldt and Agricola.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said that police will be seeking legal advice as early as today to ascertain whether murder charges can be leveled against Henry.
Kaieteur News understands that police have statements from individuals who allegedly saw Griffith’s killer in ‘Warlock’ earlier in the day and then during the night when Griffith was slain.
Police said that Henry was held on Sunday in Second Street, Agricola, with an unlicensed .38 revolver and six matching rounds, as well as with two .32 rounds. At the time, he was wanted for questioning in connection with Griffith’s murder.
Two other men were taken into custody with Henry after being found with two bulletproof vests.
‘Nasty Man’ first gained notoriety around the age of 15, when he was charged and remanded for the August 8, 2006 murder of businessman Wordsworth Grey, who was gunned down in Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
The killing occurred in the height of the crime wave and on the same night of which five Kaieteur News pressmen were slain in Eccles. In 2006, while still incarcerated, Henry was charged, along with Deon Braithwaite, for allegedly sodomising another prisoner.
Prison officials, who gave his age as 24, said that the murder case against Henry was discharged in January 2013. He was also placed on $100,000 bail for the sodomy charge.
On December 2014, he was remanded for armed robbery. He attended court on September 25, 2015 and did not return to prison. It is unclear whether this matter was also discharged.
Griffith, 36, was gunned down last week Tuesday night in an area known as ‘Back Circle,’ East Ruimveldt. There are reports that the gunman was taken by car to ‘Front Circle’, East Ruimveldt. He reportedly then walked to ‘Back Circle’, East Ruimveldt, shot Griffith, then fled to ‘Front Circle’, where the car was waiting.
Griffith was the third individual to be executed in Warlock within the past five months.
