Forty-five-year-old Edward Simon, of Tin Cup Backdam, North West District (NWD), has been charged with the murder of Lionel Williams.
According to reports, Williams and two other men were imbibing alcohol at a shop when an argument broke out between them. As a result, Williams was fatally stabbed. Simon is reportedly an in-law of Williams.
Simon, who told the court that he is a farmer, was arraigned before City Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the indictable charge was read to him.
It is alleged that on May 25, last, at Tin Cup Backdam, NWD, Simon murdered Williams.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones did not relate any facts about what transpired on the date in question.
The accused, who had no legal representation, was ordered to return to court on November 3, in the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
