After completing three games each, the eight elite teams battling in the inaugural Guyana Football Federation organised Stag Elite League will no doubt be re-assessing their strategies as another double header is set to kick off this evening at the Guyana Defense Force, Camp Ayanganna, this evening.
The Guyana Defense Force, following a spirited display against Fruta Conquerors in their previous game coming from behind and with a player less equalized and took the lead before Conquerors clawed their way back to draw the game, will take heart from that performance as they focus on the hottest young team of the league, Georgetown Football Club, tonight.
GFC, despite losing two of their three matches so far along with a draw have shown great heart and a will to fight and no doubt will be harbouring thoughts of upsetting the GDF on their home turf.
The Army will be without the services of one of their main pillars in Delwin Fraser who was red carded early in the Conquerors match but they have able soldiers in the form of Fraser’s brother, Delroy, Eusi Phillips and Cedric Osbourne scorers against Conquerors, Captain Selwyn Isaacs, Seon Prince and Oswald Cornette who will again start between the uprights.
GFC have not been committing them too much in the attacking third but would counter attack when the opportunity presents itself. However, the Bourda boys will certainly be leaning towards more attacking football as they should have an idea of playing styles of all the teams in the league by now.
Captain Shad Fernandes, Derrick Carter, Reshawn Hicks, Linden Pickett, Dellon Cadogan, Gregory Denny, Lyndon Dorway, Mario Sanchara, Romario Welcome and Kurd Johnson will be combining efforts to ensure a win for GFC.
The curtain raiser features points leaders Pele and against third place Slingerz FC in what is anticipated to be a scorching battle with leading goal scorer so far, Gregory Richardson set to again be the main architect for Pele along with Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant, Deon Alfred, Julian Joseph, Ryan Morrison, Andrew Gibson and Ronel Gordon adding muscles in attack and defence.
Slingerz will be hoping to finally score the many chances that they have been creating but this will depend on how potent the likes of Domini Garnett, Anthony Abrams, Dwayne Jacobs, Vurlon Millis and Captain Tischard Joseph are when opportunities come their way. Kick off time is 18:00hrs. (Franklin Wilson)
