Demerara Paradise Inc., a Nursing Home and Medical Services Facility, opened its doors yesterday on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) as ordained by the United Nations.
The Home operates out of five two-storied luxury properties situated in a gated compound at Lot 1 C Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara, Guyana.
The facility boasts a collection of some of the best nursing and Patient Care advocates providing 24-hour service. These include the maintenance of a healthy mind, body and soul. In so doing, they ensure the availability of certain key activities such as physiotherapy and psychology and medical support.
Demerara Paradise Inc. has available rooms to meet the needs and desires of all patients. There are also private rooms, which can accommodate visiting family members. There are on site entertainment activities such as a gym, library and a cinema.
This year’s celebration of International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) was held in anticipation of the third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) to be held in 2016.
It will focus not only on the impact of the new urban environment on older persons, but also the impact of older persons on the new urban environment.
According to the United Nations, already, the move of people worldwide to cities is happening at a record pace, with six out of every 10 people in the world expected to reside in urban areas by 2030. “Consistent with the phenomenon of urbanization, the number of older persons is increasing most rapidly in urban areas of developing countries.” says a statement by the UN.
The 2015 IDOP celebration seeks to demonstrate that an age inclusive agenda is crucial for sustainable urban environments to promote equity, welfare and shared prosperity for all.
It is said that one of the most important things that can be done to stay healthy in your golden years, is to maintain a sense of purpose by staying connected to people and things that matter. This is precisely the kind of experience that Demerara Paradise Inc., under the leadership and vision of its Director, Dr. Vivekanand Bridgemohan, offers.
Dr. Bridgemohan is the former Chief Executive Officer of the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the Latin American School of Medicine in Cuba in June 2010.
He also served as medical superintendent at the West Demerara Regional Hospital; just two of the 10 hospitals in more than five regions in Guyana where he has served.
An official opening ceremony is set for Saturday October 24, 2015.
