Oct 02, 2015 Letters
Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter (“Who is your next opponent, Freddie,” KN, September 30, 2015) by a person who signed his name as Brendon Mounter. The letter takes the form of a criticism derived from my years of observing the decisions of Magistrate Ann McLennan. On another occasion I will write on the magistrate’s grandfather who knew me when I was a little boy because he knew my eldest sister, Gwendoline and my parents very well.
Mounter’s letter has two dimensions—a defence of the work of McLennan. (He considers the wonderful work Magistrate McLennan is doing on the bench) and secondly, a series of derogatory remarks against me.
For example, Mounter said “When I am bored, which is not often, I would read Freddie’s column.”
Unfortunately Mounter proves himself to be an evader of truth and seems to know a lot more about me than the occasional reading of my columns when he is bored. It would seem that Mounter has exposed himself as a liar.
For a man who reads my column when he is bored, Mounter knows a lot about me. Let me provide readers with Mounter’s knowledge of my character and personality. Here are the words of Mounter; “Permit me to expose one of the Guyana’s most dangerous men – Freddie Kissoon. I would liken him to a ‘serial bully’, one who has all the traits of an emotionally immature attention seeker. This man must have gone through school and his youthful days being bullied and is in revenge mode, irrespective of his opponent size, stature or standing in society. I am not going to list all the heavyweights apart from the great Muhammed Ali that he challenged but he has certainly grabbed the attention in taking on former President Bharrat Jagdeo and former Minister Dr Henry Jeffery to name a couple, with little or no success. I arrived at the following conclusions. He is cold and aggressive. He is cold and aggressive towards anyone who sees him for what he really is or exposes his strategies for seeking attention. He is selectively friendly, sickly sweet to some people, rude and offhand to others and ignores the rest. He is extremely manipulative of people’s perceptions in an amateurish and childish manner.”
All of this analysis of me is coming from a man who admitted that he only reads my columns when he is bored and he is a person that is not often bored. The commonsensical question is how then he knows so much about me? A serious contradiction is at work here and I wonder if Mounter is intellectually capable of understanding it. If he knows the amount of people I have argued with then surely by any logical standard he reads a lot of my writings. It means that Mounter is very often bored because don’t forget by his own admission, he reads me only when he is bored.
Here are some more admissions of Mounter that really exposes him as a dishonest person. He wrote the following. “In the past year, I have witnessed (Kissoon’s) bombardment on an individual who is doing her job. I would be surprised if he has friends, because all Freddie does daily, is to capitalize on issues and uses them as a soapbox for gaining attention. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is as miserable as sin, apart from carefully constructed moments of charm when in the act of deceiving.”
Two facts stand out graphically here. He has followed my columns the past year since he knows that over the past year I wrote on McLennan. Secondly, he admits I daily capitalize on issues. He employs the word, “daily.” So is he in touch with my daily columns. Unfortunately, he achieves the opposite to what I believe he sets out to do. He wants readers to know I am an attention-seeker who has no credibility. But he informs those very readers that he has a long standing interest in my columns and over the years he is familiar with what I write about.
My advice to Mounter is that when he is bored he should try to visit McLennan’s court to see if he could be entertained. Finally, Mounter needs to do some research and he will find that it wasn’t Freddie Kissoon who has consistently observed that the magistracy because of poor pay has not been able to attract learned lawyers.
Those words have come from the highest judicial authorities in the land and also from the Guyana Bar Association. Mounter should direct his energies to ascertaining if Magistrate McLennan comes within the radar of those persons who made such a statement. As to my work, like McLennan, I have a job to do and my job is not to put people in jail that ought not to be in jail. I fight for freedom. I don’t take it away
