In the world of business while some forget to say ‘thank you’ to those who keep their business afloat, one businessman dares to do the opposite.
In fact, to him there is nothing greater or more satisfying than putting a smile on the faces of children.
According to Dennis Charran, Managing Director of Comfort Sleep, in his book, it is people first then business.
Charran, who has secretly indulged in the acts of charitable work countrywide for the past 15 years, plans to continue this gesture and to even expand it in the near future.
His business is providing comfort through Comfort Suites but beyond that, he gets comfort from helping the less fortunate children in Guyana.
The businessman said that the act of benevolence gives him a lot of joy. His heart always leans towards helping others, especially children.
Eight years ago, Charran embarked on a school feeding programme which has expanded to more than six schools with over 500 children benefiting from this initiative almost daily.
The schools to which he offers kindness include the Edinburgh and Friends Primary School in New Amsterdam, Berbice; Malgre Tout, La Grange, La Parfaite Harmonie and Bagotville Primary, West Bank Demerara.
Asked about his advice to individuals who seek to follow such a charitable road Charran said, “Give whatever little you can to someone in need whether it’s big or small, God has blessed you with so much so why not share with someone in need.”
In this regard the businessman noted that when supporting Comfort Sleep, you are not only getting a good night’s rest, but you would be making a positive impact on the life of a child in need.
Apart from the weekly feeding programme, the company also provides groceries each month to the Ruimveldt Children’s Home.
The Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, St. Johns Bosco Orphanage, Joshua House and Diamond Special Needs School also benefit from groceries and other items.
Every December, children from the feeding programme get a chance to experience the joys of meeting Santa through parties hosted by the company especially for them. This year will be no different.
They are usually presented with gifts. Last year, the children were taken to Fun City at the Princess Hotel in Providence.
Although, Charran lost millions of dollars in two recent fires at his company, he did not fail to live up to the children’s expectation. In fact, he made it his duty to continue the work he started.
With a smile on his face, he said the feeding programme is his “baby.”
