Bakewell, Guyana largest bakery on Wednesday last handed over the sponsorship cheque of $235,000 to the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) for first ever Naeem Nasir 5-over cricket tournament set for Sunday October 11 at the Area ‘H’ ground, Rose Hall Town.
The tournament which would be used to promote the club’s Say No to Crime/Drugs and Yes to Education/Sports message will mark the 3rd death anniversary of the late CEO/Founder of Bakewell.
General Manager of Bakewell, Mr. Rajendra Ganga in handing over the cheque said the company and the club have enjoyed a remarkable and successful relationship since 2000 and as such Bakewell has full confidence in the success of the tournament.
RHTY&SC, Ganga stated has represented the Bakewell brand well on and off the field of play and has made a positive difference in the lives of countless youths via sports, education and culture.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster in accepting the cheque said the club was proud to be associated with preserving the memory of Mr. Nasir, a businessman who invested heavily in sports especially football, lawn tennis and cricket. Foster committed the club to hosting another successful tournament.
Among the teams that will participate are Rose Hall Town Bakewell ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams,West Berbice, Police, Young Warriors, Courtland, Belvedere United, Yakusari, All Stars Youth, Kennard Memorial and Tamarind Root (Hampshire).
The winning team earns $100,000, runner-up $50,000 and the losing finalist $25,000. Each prize will have trophies.
Meanwhile, the management of the RHTY&SC has released the names of the two RHT Bakewell teams: RHT Bakewell ‘A’ – James Fraser (Captain), Vidal Crandon, Khemraj Mahadeo, Renwick Batson, Micheal Hicks, Mark Papannah, Rondhall Lewis, Erva Giddings, Simion Lawson, Slyus Tyndall, Jason Alexander, mark Fernandes, Justin Gobin and Joshua Wilson.
RHT Bakewell ‘B – Kevlon Anderson, Keith Simpson, Surendra Budhoo, Junior Sinclair, D.Sinclair, Brandon Clorlette, Joshua Gobin, Denzil Sinclair, Seerinda Marimutoo, Azam Khan, Neil Pike, T.Ross, Matthew Pattaya, Joel Pike, Clement King and Chanderpaul Gopinda.
