Dear Editor,
We the residents of Alberttown are appealing to the relevant authority for help with regards to an Internet café which is situated on Third St. Alberttown.
This internet operates from Sunday to Sunday, even on Christmas and New Year’s Day from 7:30 am to 11:00pm.
The Internet does not have accommodation for the customers and those who used the service are nuisances. They do not sit in the building that houses the Internet; instead they use our six feet passageway.
They put chairs in the passageway; block our doorways, bridges and gates.
They eat food, drink beers smoke cigarettes urinate and litter everywhere.
Sometimes they walk in and out of the passageway with the handset, talking, cursing, laughing loudly etc. We cannot sleep or study until the Internet is closed.
The only time we have peace is when it is raining or flooding.
An 82-years of age who is residing next door is been badly affected by the loud noise. Whenever we talk to the internet users about their behavior, we are verbally abused threatened.
Our driveways are being blocked by cars owned by the customers using the internet. Many times we have to wait on them to remove their vehicles so we can drive into our yards.
It is not fair to us. The person who operates this internet service is instructing his customers to go into our passage way with their handset to make their calls.
We spoke to the Internet owner about the ‘problem but nothing has been done. We went to Mr Hickens at the Brickdam Police Station concerning this problem and he referred us to the Alberttown Police Station where we met with Ms. Griffith the Officer in Charge, she invited us along with the Internet owners in order to discuss the matter.
But the internet owner never showed up for the meeting.
That was the end of the matter. We call several times at nights and no police every showed up.
It is a waste of time going to the Alberttown Police Station because we believe that the ranks there are friends with the internet owners.
We wrote to the Ministry of Housing asking them to intervene.
They ignored, and the City Council is the same. We would like to know how approval was given to operate the internet service?
