The Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) of Berbice continues to receive assistance from former and current members both in Guyana and overseas. The latest act of benevolence came from former top rider and long serving member, Deolall Sooklall of Chesney Front, Corentyne Berbice. Sooklall a re-migrant Guyanese recently presented a number of prizes to the FACC for the club’s annual track attack cycle race slated for Sunday 8th November at the Area H ground Rose Hall Town.
Sooklall who once resided in Canada and returned to his homeland about three years ago will be sponsoring the prizes for the unknown distance. He will also be presenting a prize for the most outstanding school boy cyclist on show for the day.
Sooklall who operates a general cycle repair and a tire repair workshop for all types of vehicles was a top cyclist in the 90s. He was once a part of the batch of cyclist along with the Benjamin brothers and others from the Ancient County that dominated the scene.
The former top cyclist like a number of his other colleagues that had migrated is still a member of the club and would assist with numerous donations from time to time.
He is appealing to others in the Diaspora and those at home and business persons to come on board and assist the club in keeping cycling activities alive. He is also appealing to the Government of Guyana to recognize the contribution made by Roberts.
The donation was made to club founder and coach Randolph Roberts at a simple ceremony at the club’s headquarters in New Amsterdam.
Sooklall further stated that over the years he recognized the excellent work Roberts has been putting in on a daily basis in keeping the sport alive in Berbice and as a former cyclist himself and a businessman he is always willing to help.
Roberts stated that the donation will go a far way in helping the club realize its dream and host yet another successful cycling event. Roberts also used the opportunity to call on other former members, both home and abroad and business persons to come on board and assist the club in keeping youths gainfully occupied.
