Nandanie Singh a single mother of two, whose house roof was recently damaged by a squall in the Tuschen New Scheme area, is now the proud owner of a new home. The building was financed by several members of Tuschen.
With a helping party organized by Pandit, Parmashwar Haimraj, an attempt was made to repair the roof of the home so that its occupants could be a bit more comfortable.
At the start of the repairs it was observed that the house was dangerously unstable.
“I decided that instead of just fixing the roof, we could extend the home and just put a shed.
When we started breaking the building, however, we saw that it was just falling apart, so a decision was made to build a complete new home,” stated Pandit Haimraj.
When asked what drove them towards the generous act of kindness, the Pandit revealed that upon viewing the woman’s house and living conditions, it was no longer a matter of money as no one should live in such a deplorable state, especially with two children.
There was no modern amenity such as electricity in the home, so upon completion, electricity was also provided.
The project cost some $1.5 million. It is not the first instance of public service organized by Pandit Haimraj to members of the community, but it is the first of such magnitude.
“We usually give away grocery hampers, school children also receive hampers, and at one time we built a fence for an 86-year-old woman.”
The new home was made possible by contributions from the Hindu Business Community, “Vanie” (who is said to be one of the bigger donors) and Ruben Sawmills. Gratitude was profoundly expressed by Pandit Haimraj for all the donations and help received from members of the community in completing the new house.
Nandanie Singh, who is said to be in her 40s, has spent a number of years squatting in the area. She would support herself and her children by selling snacks from a bicycle around the community.
She is overjoyed and grateful for the new home granted to her as a result of the kind contributions made by members of the community.
