Dear Editor,
Venezuela in confronting the USA uses Guyana again. This is how failed Marxist regimes fight capitalism, not as an economic system but as the scapegoat of decades of failed policies.
However, I find it equally amusing that Guyana would engage in such soap opera, i.e. showing pictures of Venezuelan missiles heading for the border. I am guessing that the missiles are to protect the drug lords and their cronies from the DEA, which is considering a regional station in Guyana.
Let us get real with Venezuela wanting to annex Essequibo because of historical claims. Under its leadership, or lack thereof- Chavez and now Madura- Venezuela has become a rogue state, with betrayal of Cuba joining the USA adding salt to its wounds.
So what do you do? You do like the intellectually challenged in the USA; you get on the Judge Judy show and get some airtime.
In this case, the UN is Judge Judy and the defendant is Guyana. That leaves the audience that is most likely the likes of Columbia and the rest of the impotent world.
Territorial disputes are everyday issues around the world; it is a way to distract the population from being industrious. I have not heard of Germany having any disputes over land recently. Why? Because it is a producer.
I am not expecting defense bonds this time around; the current government is offering distraction. Guyanese like to invest in distraction… case in point, the daily dose of Jagdeo, the next contestant for the Judge Judy show.
But until then, he is building his case for a return to the monarchy. Murder for hire on installment is a simple case of the Guyanese society already in the toilet.
To gain dignity, the government is stirring the people to confront Venezuela, another society in the toilet creating a row of toilets, like those found at outdoor events.
Guyanese do not get distracted with another episode of Venezuela. This time, continue your daily lives munching off of your hardworking relatives living in the USA that hope you return the favour when they return as so-called re-migrants because they skip out on repaying their home equity line of credit.
Or wait for the polls in several years to change government like how people change their cell phone carriers and cable providers for any deal. Better yet, move en masse from Georgetown to Essequibo, especially those living in abject poverty in Albouyston and Tiger Bay. These folks can be self sufficient as well as have a better quality of life as a result of developing vast empty lands that are often given away to suspect Asian companies.
The new government should ignore the sabre rattling of the Venezuelans. This is a government that squandered its oil riches to support those who contribute nothing other than human waste to society.
It is very difficult to change a culture of welfarism, both state and family sponsored, that has developed over generations.
The trading of guns over the Suriname and Venezuelans borders, two rogue states, into Guyana has created a stick up mentality for a growing section of the Guyanese population that want everything advertise on the internet and television but do not want to work to accumulate stuff.
Instead, they hire hit men or invent robberies on themselves and family because it is the modus operandi of a population that has lost pride and has gotten immune to shame. Where is this coming from, you bet, Suriname and Venezuela.
My suggestion, make a deal with the EU to take in 500,000 Syrian refugees and relocate them to the Essequibo region.
This should net the country about 10 billion euros. Enough to build two modern cities and generate another 30 billion euros in spending. Most importantly, Guyana will get the support it needs to quash Venezuela for good.
