The Upper Corentyne 20/20 cricket competition saw the third round played Sunday last at various venues in the area. This competition is sponsored by Mr. Ricky Deonarain of 4R Bearings of Georgetown and is being organized by the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association. The competition which features 20 teams is being played in four zones on a home and away basis. Some results are as follows for games played Sunday last:
At the Scottsburg ground: No. 73 Young Warriors defeated Scottsburg by 65 runs. No. 73 Young Warriors batted first and scored 135 for 5 of 20 overs with skipper Lakeram Latchman scoring 48 not out and Chitram Ramjass 30 not out being the top scorers. Bowling for Scottsburg Raymond Lowenfield took 2 for 21 off 4 overs and J. McCalmon took 2 for 20 off 4 overs. In reply Scottsburg were bowled out for 70 runs in 15.3 overs. Kevin Clarke and James Hart scored 14 runs each. Bowling for No. 73 Young Warriors Chanderkumar Ramjass took 4 for 20 off 3.3 overs and Claude Felix 3 for 13 off 4 overs.
At No. 73 ground: Corriverton defeated CWC Young Royals by 3 wickets. Crabwood Creek Young Royals batted first and scored 140 for 5 off 20 overs. Rabindra Singh 40 and Taleshwar Beepat 25 not out were the top scorers for CWC Young Royals. Bowling for Corriverton, Deoprakash Ramdat took 2 for 16 off 3 overs and Faoud Bacchus 2 for 25 off 4 overs. In reply Corriverton scored 141 for 7 off 18.5 overs. Eric Phillips 34 not out, Amzan Appalsammy 29 and Anthony Seeraj 20 did the job for Corriverton. Bowling for CWC Young Royals, Gobin Sugrim 2 for 25 off 4 overs was the pick of the bowlers.
At Yakusari ground: Yakusari Caribs defeated No. 52 Survival by 39 runs in a match reduced to 15 overs per side due to rain. Batting first Yakusari Caribs made 104 for 4 off 15 overs. Ramesh Iyana 36 and Terrance Bubhu 34 were the top scorers for the Yakusari Caribs. Bowling for No. 52 Survival, Peer Tello was the pick of the bowlers by taking 1 for 4 off 3 overs. In reply No. 52 Survival were bowled out for 65 runs off 14 overs. Ramesh Iyana return with the ball and took 4 for 6 off 3 overs and Chermani Iyana 4 for 8 off 4 overs doing the damage for Yakusari Caribs.
