Even as police officials are urging civilians to bring in illegal firearms, a young police constable may have put one more gun on the streets.
Police sources said that a businessman had lodged his .32 Taurus pistol at Eve Leary, while he attempted to obtain a firearm licence.
However, when the man obtained his licence and eventually returned to uplift the weapon, the constable was unable to account for the weapon, even though he had signed to have it lodged.
The rank is said to be now under close arrest.
