Following a thorough selection process which was aided by the general public, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) and its Cricket Development Committee (CDC) selected the 25 greatest and most popular cricketers in the entity’s twenty-five year history.
A total of one hundred and ninety two members of the public voted via email or letters and their vote along with the CDC decided on the final list. Players were selected based on performances for the club, discipline, loyalty, contribution to club activities, role model status and the role they played assisting the club to attain its present status.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster who spearheaded the process stated that during the period 1990 – 2015, a total of 1,342 players have represented the club at different levels and selecting the top 25 was a challenging task.
West Indies players Assad Fudadin, Royston Crandon and Shemaine Campbelle along with Neil Williams and Major James Fraser topped the list for the top five. Williams was the first RHTY&SC member to represent Berbice and Guyana at any level and had the distinction of achieving the club record for most runs, most centuries, most wickets and most catches while Fraser, a Major in the Guyana Defense Force represented Berbice at the senior level and is one of the most prolific batsman in the history of the club.
The full list of top 25 cricketers are: (1) Assad Fudadin, (2) Royston Crandon, (3) James Fraser, (4) Neil Williams, (5) Shemaine Campbelle, (6) Renwick Batson, (7) Khemraj Mahadeo, (8) Shawn Grant, (9) Esaun Crandon, (10) Ravi Narine, (11) Delbert Hicks, (12) Andre Percival, (13) Desmond Fraser, (14) Jason Sinclair, (15) Inderpaul Mohan, (16) Micheal Trim, (17) Micheal Hicks, (18) Abdel Fudadin, (19) Joseph Arokium, (20) Clinton Pestano, (21) Eon Hooper, (22) Dominic Rikhi, (23) Raymond Haniff, (24)Shawn Perriera, (25) Erva Giddings.
The cricketers would be honoured at a special ceremony later this year as part of the final events for the Club’s Silver Jubilee anniversary celebration. Those receiving honorable mention were Troy Mathieson, Micheal Rengasami, George Paddy, Nyeem Abdool, Sulaman Sahid, Parmanand Tikapersaud, Randolp Keseram, Steve Cecil, Steve Rengasami, Sham Veerasammy, Shevon Marks, Randolp Latcha, Eon Gibbson, Ingray Dey, Hassan Hussain, Raymond Cecil and Permaul Sukra.
The club is now in the process of indentifying a list of 25 outstanding administrators for the same period, who have served the club beyond the call of duty. Among those expected to be honoured are the late Farouk Kudrath, Keith Foster, Davon Hicks, Ravin Kissoonlall, Keith Hicks, Terry Pike, Leon Wiggins Sr., Franklyne Ross, Isabella Smartt, Neville Beaton and Moses Ramchanden.
The RHTY&SC was formed in 1990 by three-time Guyana, Caribbean and Commonwealth Youth Service Awardee, The St. Francis Community Developers. From a mere cricketing entity, they have transformed into a dynamic, and Guyana most progressive Youth and Sports Club – NGO – with over 200 programmes/activities hosted on an annual bases.
