Dear Editor,
Two months ago residents of Wakenaam, Maria’s Pleasure signed a petition calling for the immediate removal of a Neighbourhood Police Officer. We had outlined in the petition evidence of bribery and corrupt practices as the primary grounds for removal of this officer.
Two investigators came on the island and took statements from the signatories and were provided with additional information as to the need for the immediate removal of the said officer. About a month ago, I personally spoke to the commander of G division who said that the file has gone to DPP.
Editor, the above begs the question, why the slothfulness? We are now officially frustrated and are therefore demanding the intervention of the Minister of Public Security. Mr. Ramjattan has a copy of the petition.
I find it strange to comprehend the dismissal and transfer of real police officers and the sloth in dismissing a Neighbourhood Police Officer that is continuously stepping out of boundary. Is someone protecting this individual? We will not jump to conclusions if answers are provided to us.
