A fine all-round performance by West Indies U19 player Askhaya Persaud guided Everest CC to 71-run victory over host Malteenoes SC when the Georgetown Cricket Association/ New Building Society second division 40-over tournament continued yesterday.
Persaud slammed four fours and a similar number of sixes in a top score of 48 and shared in a second wicket stand of 57 with Travis Persaud who made 25 as Everest posted 202 all out in 39.3 overs, after they were asked to bat.
Malcolm Hubbard supported with 28 and Richie Looknauth 26 not out as Shaquille Moseley grabbed 4-41 and Steven Sankar 2-38.
Joel Alleyne stroked 51 inclusive of four fours and one six, but his dismissal triggered a collapse as MSC were sent packing for 131 in 32 overs in reply.
Kareem Naughton made 30 down the order (3×4,1×6) while Moseley (10) was the only other batsman that reached double figures. Persaud finished with 4-28 while Kelvin Sheoprasad and Mark Jeffers had two each.
At GNIC, the host defeated St. Stanislaus by 103 runs. GNIC posted 210 all out in 31.2 overs. Ken Alphonso slammed 47 (7×4,1×6), Kurt Lovell 43 (7×4), Paul Thomas 31 (7×4) and Andrew Chung 25 (5×4). Irfan Alli bagged 5-59. St. Stanislaus were given a rousing start by openers Alli and A. Mc Callum- the pair added 67, but when they were separated, St. Stanislaus lost way and were bowled out for 107 in 24 overs. Alli top scored with 32 (3×4,1×6) and Mc Callum 18 (2×4). Alphonso captured 3-13, Delroy Charles 3-16 and Marcel Mentore 2-16.
Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) beat Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) by 71 runs yesterday at Bourda. Ronaldo Ali Mohamed cracked a fluent 70 while Gavin Singh scored 48 as GCC rattled up 223-6 in 40 overs after they decided to bat. Mohamed and Singh resurrected their team’s innings after they had slipped to 59-3, with a fourth wicket stand of 113.
The right-handed Mohamed struck six fours and one six while Singh hit two fours. Devon Lord chipped in with an unbeaten 29 as Devesh Ramjattan picked up 4-50 from eight overs.
GYO threatened somewhat but were restricted for 162-8 in 40 overs in reply. Surendra Hiralall led with 48 while Bhaskar Yadram hit 27 not out. Lord claimed 2-25, Singh 2-30 and Stephan Wilson 2-38.
