While there are some persons who are of the belief that quality nursing training is not available in Guyana, Tricia Yahya is testimony to the fact that some of the best nurses were trained right here.
Yahya, who currently resides in England, United Kingdom, was recently awarded the title of Outstanding Manager of the year. She was also bestowed the runner-up award for Outstanding Customer Service.
Yahya was nominated because of her employment as a Manager at the Priority Nursing Home which falls under the Somerset Care Group. Somerset Care Group is one of the major care providers in Southern England. It is also one of the largest non-profit care companies in the UK. It currently has 31 care homes and a range of care and support services as well as its own training company.
Integrating into the nursing service organization was no major task for Yahya as, according to her, nurse training in Guyana was very helpful. “I am grateful for the nurse training I had in Guyana and wish to thank all the members of my wonderful family and friends for their support too.”
She disclosed that she was nominated for the recent awards because her colleagues recognized her ability to not only perform in a professional manner but efficiently as well.
“I was humbled and moved to tears when I read what was written by the nominees,” said Yahya as she made reference to ‘A note About Tricia Yahya’ prepared in her honour.
She was described as having an outstanding personality and one known to give undivided attention to her clients.
According to one nominee’s account of her, “Tricia is always looking to improve and develop the service…She is a true business manager.”
Another nominee said, “Her customer approach enables the home to deliver good high quality care.
She is so passionate that she inspires me…she is warm, welcoming and professional which is good for business. The company and her reputation precede her.”
Yahya was employed at the Priority Nursing Home nine years ago as a nurse supervisor. She was later elevated to Clinical Head and then Deputy Manager. In November 2013 she was confirmed as Manager.
Yahya is registered with Care Quality Commission in England and Wales.
