Dear Editor,
I am pleased to read that the new management of NCN, with the new Board of directors, can see the wisdom of erecting a proper fence to a heartbeat of Nation Security. To this writer, as a Security and Crime Prevention Specialist, the National Communication Network is no ordinary run of the mill television station or radio network.
This mass communications System owned by the People of Guyana, has a national outreach, both by radio and television, which is good for the nation, for news broadcasting, sports, and for entertainment.
Hence, it has a great service to the peoples of Guyana, but it could be extremely dangerous for various reasons. I am happy that the Government of Guyana, and the Board of Directors, can understand and see with the wisdom they show, that this network must be protected, at all costs. The mandate of NCN is huge and if not protected could be catastrophic to the country and stability of Guyana.
As Founder/Chairman of RK’s Guyana Security Services for over a decade, it was not easy keeping the NCN premises secure. Bandits were always attempting to penetrate the premises, and even employees were found throwing things over the short fences, and suspicious items were thrown from over the fence into the building. Fortunately, we never had any losses. Professionalism and good luck too were obviously at work here.
From the commencement of our service there, I wrote the management asking for a better fence. We even suggested that the fence be patterned after the one at the Office of the President and later, even patterned after the one of the Ministry of Agriculture. We were never accorded even the courtesy of a reply. The letter highlighted the similar concerns mentioned above on national security, and the need to provide adequate protection for this most strategic and vital site for Government’s business, and in service to the citizens of this country.
A perimeter barrier, commonly referred to as a fence is a simple most important component to the management of a security detail in respect to protecting life, limb and property.
It is my opinion that the Government of the day and the new Board of directors are more security conscious to the assets of the nation. A previous gentleman, who was the CEO of the entity, would never cooperate! Could never understand what we were telling him about security in light of a national communication network.
Security wise, I am pleased of this decision.
