The National Sports Commission (NSC) Inter-Primary School limited overs cricket competition is set to commence today at Better Hope ground, East Coast Demerara. The competition will be played in five zones with the winner of each zone advancing to the playoffs on October 16 at Enmore.
Organiser, Umpire and Coach Daniel Richmond, conducted several coaching sessions in the targeted areas recently. Richmond told Kaieteur Sport that he was impressed with the talent and attitude of the youngsters. Discussions were also held with the Heads of Department and as such the event was given the green light.
Richmond who is also a sports organiser attached to the NSC feels school cricket is important for the progression of the game here, something he said that has been lacking for quite a number of years.
Today, schools from Plaisance to Lusignan will battle from 09:00hrs while on September 28; schools within the vicinity of Ann’s Grove to Paradise will match skills at Enmore.
Matches will continue on October 2 with schools from Calcutta to Carlton facing off at Fairfield while on October 7 schools from Paradise to Lusignan will take to the field at Lusignan.
The final preliminary round games will be contested on October 9 at Helena with teams from Cane Grove to Unity in focus. Trophies and medals will be up for grabs.
