Patanjalee ‘Pur’ “I love the winning feeling” Persaud led the field yet another time last Saturday as he excelled in his performance in the inaugural 18-hole medal play golf tournament sponsored by Silvies General Store.

At the end of the exciting day’s play, top Net scorers were; Pur Persaud, 20/67 – 1st; Troy Cadogan 24/69 – 2nd; Patrick Prashad 9/69 – 3rd. A fourth prize was not awarded, but young Lachman Ramroop did excellently to return a net 69 as well. The three net 69’s were given preference depending on the golfers’ performance in the last nine holes (or back nine). Best Gross (in this case 78) was also won by Patrick Prashad, and Nearest to The Pin by Roy Cummings.
An interesting feature is that while Pur Persaud placed 1st in the Continental Group, Torginal Paints tournament of 11th April 2015, Patrick Prashad placed 3rd and won Best Gross in that same tournament.
Golf Club President, Mr Oncar ‘Shyam’ Ramroop, representing Silvies CEO, Mr Bramanand Persaud, at the prize giving ceremony, indicated that Silvies has pledged to continue supporting Golf in Guyana, as they support other sporting disciplines. In addition, Silvies will annually sponsor a golf tournament. On behalf of the Club, President Ramroop thanked Silivies for the gesture and also commended Mr Kishan Bacchus for initiating the Silvies’ sponsorship.
Captain Chatterpaul ‘Chen’ Deo expressed his satisfaction with the competitive play and great camaraderie among the golfers. He stated, “The scores indicate that the approximately three-month lay-off due to the weather and the grounds condition has not slowed down members’ passion for the game and for good play. Fairways, greens, and tee-boxes were all in very good condition favouring the high standard of golfing produced today.”
