Orin Sutton, a father of three, has been working around the clock to provide for his family of five. A few months ago, the 33-year-old began experiencing chest pain, fever and swollen feet. He took these signs for nothing and carried on with his life as usual.
But little did he know that his body was trying to tell him that something was amiss.
Sutton, who resides at Lot 56 Half Mile, Wismar, Linden, collapsed three weeks ago while seated in his car that was parked at the Linden Taxi Park.
He was later admitted to the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI), where he underwent several tests. It was later found that his left aortic valve is destroyed and that he needs to undergo Aortic Valve Replacement surgery costing $2M.
Aortic valve replacement is a procedure in which a patient’s failing aortic valve is replaced with an artificial heart valve
Medical documents seen by Kaieteur News show that Sutton was reviewed by Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Dr. Gary Stephens, who later recommended him for the operation.
As such his family is seeking the public’s assistance to raise part of the money.
According to his cousin, Deneisha Sutton, the Ministry of Public Health has promised to cover half of the cost.
Deneisha explained that his condition is life threatening. She said that her cousin has a mass over his heart that is preventing blood from circulating. The woman told this publication that after Sutton collapsed he was rushed to the Mackenzie Hospital by a young man. “Doctors at the institution gave him oxygen and placed him on a machine”, the woman recalled.
However, Deneisha revealed that Sutton was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and then to the CHI. He was subsequently discharged for the CHI and sent home.
But things took a turn for the worse yesterday morning. Sutton’s cousin said that he suffered a heart attack and had to be rushed back to the institution.
She added that he is unable to work since he is now confined to bed. Further, she disclosed that he is unable to eat certain foods and can be seen constantly panting for breath.
Deneisha is appealing with members of the public to give generously and help save his life.
Anyone willing to assist the family can contact Deneisha on tel # 6652713. Contributions can also be deposited into his wife’s Citizens Bank account #218824440.
