Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after they pleaded not guilty to an armed robbery charge, when they appeared before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Private, 26 year-old Anthony Ralph and Corwin Wright, of Lot 83 Duke Street Kingston, Georgetown, denied robbing Andel Park, of a Samsung Galaxy S 5 cellular phone, a wallet, one haversack and other items to the value of $111,000.
The duo allegedly committed the crime on September 5, at Georgetown, while they were armed with an ice pick.
Police Corporal, Deniro Jones, who presented the prosecution’s case, did not reveal any facts about what transpired on the day in question.
Jones opposed to bail for the duo citing the gravity of the charge and the penalty attached to the offence. He informed the court that Wright has given the police conflicting addresses as compared to the one he gave the court. In court he said that he lived at Lot 26 Festival City, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Further, Jones pointed out that Park was stabbed during the ordeal with the offensive weapon.
The Prosecutor noted that the victim positively identified the duo to police on patrol duty after the robbery occurred.
Magistrate Mc Lennan after listening to the prosecutor’s submission refused to grant the men bail and order them to return to court on September 11, before Magistrate Alex Moore for continuation.
