The Berbice Football Association (BFA) series tournaments and matches continued before a small but vocal crowd on Sunday at the Burnham Park ground in New Amsterdam. The combined East Berbice team had to pull out all the stops to eke out a 2-2 draw against their more aggressive counterparts from West Berbice.
The West side had their Eastern neighbours under pressure from the start and was rewarded with an Akimo Watts goal to go one up in the 20th minute when East blundered in their defense.
However, the boys from the East realized that they had a match on their hands and fought back strongly with Jamaul Butts scoring the first of a brace of goals in the 41st minute to level the score a 1-1 at half time.
The second half continued in similar fashion with the West side boys attacking relentlessly as they heaped pressure on the East side. This resulted in their second goal which came off the boot of Matthew Doris who was alert enough to pounce on a dropped ball from goalkeeper Hosannah in his attempt to save from a cross.
Again under severe pressure from West side boys, the East combination rallied to equalise with a second Jamaul Butts goal in the 83rd minute which effectively meant that the game would end 2-2. West Berbice player Mark Wronge was named as the Player of the Match.
Before the match, the teams were met by BFA officials including Vice President Sherwin Forde who indicated that they plan to hold a tri-series of Under-19 matches, the next encounter will be decided on, shortly.
