Sep 07, 2015 Letters
Dear Editor,
Please permit us a space in your column to publish our letter. This is an open letter to the Commissioner of Police Mr. Seelall Persaud. We the drivers and conductors of the Parika Mini Bus Association, along with business personnel are seeking justice.
It is a clear view of victimization against Corporal Khanoo for doing his job. There is a smooth system of loading a bus at Parika, whereby each driver gets a turn to load so that everybody working gets a daily bread.
This system is being supervised by the traffic ranks and wardens who represent the mini bus association. During the month of August 2015, mini bus BTT 4448 was being operated by the driver of the Police Commissioner, who did not adhere to the system we have.
Disrespecting the Warden, stopping on the NO STOPPING Sign, stopping in front of the first bus loading in the line, Speeding, driving away from police, operating the bus with a boom box and the list goes on.
Corporal Khanoo warned him about his behaviour and he continued with the same nonsense. On the second occasion the Corporal warned him, he became abusive towards the police saying in the full view of the public that he is the driver of the Commissioner and nobody can tell him anything and he could load anywhere he feels like. This was reported to ASP Stephens, also the Commander. The Commander even warned him about his behavior.
Apparently the Top Cop’s driver is bigger than the Commander, because he went to Parika and made it loud and clear that he will see to it that the Corporal is transferred, just like he did to the rest.
Lo and behold that happened on Monday the 31-08-2015; the Police Corporal was transferred to TSU with immediate effect.
We made contact with the ASP and Commander and they both were stunned as to the transfer. Where are we heading when junior ranks is being victimized by the Commissioner for carrying out their duties, just for the sake of his rogue driver?
The police doing their job correctly are being victimized, while the Police Commissioner’s driver, who violates the law, seems to be right. Mr. Commissioner you made a wrong, wrong decision and we are standing up for what’s right. Corporal Khanoo is always there for us, seeing that Parika Traffic runs smoothly.
We can say we have an accident-free zone and you could check how much errant drivers were charged for violating since he was there. This rank put an immediate stop to touts in Parika. We are hereby seeking justice for Corporal Khanoo and for his transfer to be rescinded, we need JUSTICE.
