Jeffrey, Gokarn Ramdhani, Priyanna Ramdhani, Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra.
The Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation (CAREBACO) Individual Championships concluded on Saturday at Club Los Prados, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic with Guyana’s four-member team, the smallest contingent, carting off five (5) bronze medals in the seven (7) country competition.
The young Guyanese players were not intimidated by the large contingent of players fielded by the other countries numbering 25 to 40 in some cases, as they stuck to the task reaching the quarter finals and semi finals in varying categories of a very competitive championship.
Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) President Gokarn Ramdhani who was also the Team Coach said that he was pleased with the performances of the players noting that due to a storm that hit the host country, play was postponed on Friday which meant that the players had to double up on Saturday playing as much as six matches which would have taken a toll, physically, on his charges.
Nonetheless, the players persevered and came away with their heads high and the Golden Arrowhead aloft. Priyanna Ramdhani who competed in the Girls Under-15 Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles won bronze in all three events.
Tyrese Jeffrey won bronze in the Under-15 Mixed Doubles while Guyana’s leading player, Narayan Ramdhani who competed in the Boys Under-19 also took bronze.
