Robin Persaud used his experience to good effect, capturing the feature School Boys and Invitational 35-lap event when the 2015 “Teach Them Young” Cycle programme concluded yesterday at the National Park.
Persaud, who grabbed one prime, Junior Niles, Jamal John and Paul De Nobrega dictated proceedings from the onset as they separated themselves from the pack in the second lap.
The quartet continued their dominance throughout the contest, but it was Persaud who prevailed winning the battle in a time of One Hour 16 Minutes 32.56 Seconds.
Niles took the runner up spot followed by John, De Nobrega, Raul Leal and Paul Choo-Wee-Nam in that order. De Nobrega captured three primes while Niles and John had two each.
The veteran Under-50 5-lap event was taken by Jude Bentley in a time of 12 Minutes 14.85 Seconds, Junior Niles placed second and Ian Jackson third; Bently took one prime.
Linden Blackman won the Over-50 5-lap race while Zab James carted off the boys BMX 9-12, 3-lap title. Alexander Leung took the boys BMX 6-9, 2-lap event ahead of Simon Cheo and John Niles respectively; Tharan Garbarran claimed the boys BMX 12-14, 3-lap crown along with two primes.
The Juvenile 10-lap went to John who won the duel in a time of 25 Minutes 28.72 Seconds; Raphael Leung took the runner up spot ahead of Kemuel Moses. John and Leung took one prime each.
Marcus Keiler took the top podium spot in the Mountain Bike 5-lap race in a time of 12 Minutes 44.50 Seconds. Makol Diaz finished second and Jason Herbert third; Keiler pocketed the lone prime.Speaking at the presentation ceremony, National Coach and Organiser Hassan Mohamed congratulated the winners and urged the youngsters to take the sport seriously as well as their Education.
He thanked the National Sports Commission (sponsor) and Ricks and Sari who presented a cycle to Adeli Hodge for their support. This year marked the 39th year for the programme.
