Berbice Under-15 Captain Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair and Keith Simpson combined efforts to lead Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15s into the semifinals of the 2014 Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), Tenelec Inc. Under-15 Tournament.
Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes obtained first innings points over a hapless Bush Lot Rising Star Team who then failed to turn up for the second day.
Batting first after losing the toss, Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes rattled up and imposing 260 for 3 before declaring, Anderson led with an unbeaten 113, an innings which included eight boundaries.
Fellow national Under-15 Junior Sinclair batted well for 53 while Keith Simpson 30 and Brandon Corlette 22 not out supported well. Bowling for the visitors Navendra Prashad took 2-87 off 15 overs while Nicholas Shiurally claimed 1-30 off six overs.
In reply Bush Lot Rising Star was given a rousing start by openers Adrian Ramnarine and Hanskumar Singh, the pair adding 50 in just ten overs before left arm spinner Keith Simpson removed Singh for 19 via the LBW route while Ramnarine fell to the same bowler for a top score of 34 to have the score 57 for 2.
None of the remaining batsmen reached double figures as off spinner Junior Sinclair claimed 5-8 off six overs; Simpson had 3-10 off seven overs. The visitors were dismissed for 89, a deficit of 171 runs on first innings.
Batting a second time, RHT Farfan & Mendes lost Surendra Budhoo for 5 and the promoted pair of Justin Gobin and Clement King Jnr. for naught each to be in a spot of bother at 25 for 3. But Sinclair (25) and Keith Simpson added 70 runs for the 4th wicket before Sinclair was bowled by Bhola for 30.
Simpson and first innings centurion Kevlon Anderson then turned flayed the Bush Lot bowling attack to add a further 85 before the close of play. Simpson was unbeaten on 70 (6×4) while Anderson scored his second fifty of the match and was on 51 when stumps were drawn.
He was denied an opportunity to score another century when Bush Lot did not turn up on the second day with RHT Farfan & Mendes enjoying a healthy lead of 351 runs with five wickets in hand.
RHT Farfan & Mendes will now play Tucber Park in the semifinal on a date and venue to be announced by the BCB.
