The National Sports Commission (NSC) yesterday made a timely donation to several sports bodies to aid with the development of their respective disciplines. At a simple ceremony held at the NSC office, Homestretch Avenue, Director of Sport Christopher Jones presented cheques of an undisclosed sum, trophies, school materials, Chess and Scrabble sets to the organisations.
Jones, in remarks noted the importance of sports whilst urging the various entities to continue their good work.
“The Government is keen in having sports being an integral part of the school’s curriculum which will aid in producing well-rounded individuals so this is a small way of showing our commitment,” he stated.
The entities that benefitted from the venture are the Guyana Masters Athletics Association, Fruta Conquerors FC, Guyana Blind Cricket Association, Guyana National Rifle Association, Mark Walkes, Athletics Association of Guyana, Guyana Boxing Association, Guyana Amateur Basketball Association, Tang Soo Do International Guyana, Guyana Amateur Swimming Association, Guyana Hockey Board, Best of the Best Martial Arts School, Guyana Football Coaches Association, District Sports Council Upper Mazaruni, Carl Hooper Cricket Club, Central Georgetown Police Youth Group, Guyana Body Building and Fitness Federation Inc., Demerara Cricket Club, Boyce and Jefford Track and Field Classic, Rima Guest House, National Library, Neighbour to Neighbour Action Group, Titans Table Tennis Club and Clean Heart Youth Entertainment.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients’ President of Demerara Cricket Club, Alfred Mentore expressed gratitude to the NSC for their input adding that it will help to motivate the various sporting bodies to strive for greater heights.
He said that the club’s annual cricket academy was a success and thanked its sponsors which include New GPC-Limacol, Supreme Snacks, Scotiabank, Digicel, Ministry of Housing, Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association, Sankar Auto Paints, Life Time Real Estate, Georgetown Toast Masters Club, Ministry of Health, Carnegie School of Home Economics, Fitness Express, Matthew Kissoon, Ms. Abrams and Ms. Mercia.
